I think of each pregnancy as 5 trimesters. There are the obvious three that you think of when you are pregnant and then there are two that we don’t talk about enough.⁠
⁠
The fifth is the postnatal or postpartum stage. This definitely counts!⁠
⁠
And the first is preconception. The vital 3 months leading up to conception. During this time you are setting yourself and your body up for a happy and healthy pregnancy.⁠
⁠
The preconception phase is crucial to egg health, hormonal health, ovulation, fertility, stress management…and the list goes on. This all plays a part in your egg quality and chances of conceiving naturally and quickly. ⁠
⁠
Remember that each trimester is equally as important to yours and baby’s overall well-being.⁠
⁠
I have made a career pivot recently and really honed in on something I'm extremely passionate about - preconception health and helping women get pregnant faster, naturally.⁠

Just can't seem to stay on track with your food to reach your goal?⁠
⁠
Food prep is your best friend. Having everything ready in the fridge to put together your snacks and meals for at least 3 days is key. No, you don't have to fix specific meals...I know that the same meal over and over can get boring real quick. ⁠
⁠
Instead food prep! Make parts of meals that you can put together throughout the week in different ways. Think quinoa, greens, a tray of roasted sweet potatoes, grilled chicken, avocados, pre-cut veggies, hummus. You can mix and match so many bowls and salads with these ingredients plus a few you already have in your pantry i.e. oil and vinegar, nuts and seeds...⁠

Take too much time on Sunday? If you tray bake things and don't make complicated recipes, you can have a full prep done in an hour. Remember, this means you don't have to cook throughout the week so you are actually saving yourself time. What are you waiting for?

The annual Dirty Dozen list came out yesterday. A shoppers guide to pesticides in produce 🫑🍅🍐🍎🍒🍑🍓🍇🥬

These are the fruits and veggies I strongly urge you to consume organic.

In case you aren't familiar with EWG, they are a non-profit that "empowers people to live healthier lives in a healthier environment. With breakthrough research and education, we drive consumer choice on civic action."

Look them up. They do some incredible work!

Supplements and vitamins I believe everyone should take daily.⁠
⁠
You can aim to incorporate these foods daily if you aren't a supplement fan. Whole foods are always best but no one is perfect and sometimes there are still nutrient holes in our diets.⁠
⁠
☀️ Vitamin D⁠
While sunlight is a great natural resource for vitamin D, it still may not be enough. You need to spend about 15min bare skinned outside on the sunshine daily. That is not always possible in the winter months. You also absorb less if you have darker skin-tone or if you are over 65.⁠
⁠
Some symptoms of a deficient include muscle weakness, fatigue and depression.⁠
⁠
Here are some options to up your vitamin d with food - mushrooms, cod liver oil, salmon, sardines, egg yolk.⁠
⁠
🥛 Probiotic⁠
You can choose to increase your intake of sauerkraut, yogurt, kimchi, miso, kefir - but this still may not be enough to balance the friendly bacteria in your gut. Probiotics can play a vital role in your mental health. Out guts are out second brains.⁠
⁠
🐟 Fish Oil⁠
Omega-3 fatty acids are SO important! They can help with mental health, they promote brain health during pregnancy, they lower your risk of heart disease...the list goes on and it's really quite remarkable.⁠
⁠
Run and grab a supplement or get more of the following in your diet: salmon, sardines, oysters, anchovies, flax seeds, chia seeds, walnuts.⁠

Always speak with your doctor to see if you could benefit from taking these supplements or increasing these foods in your diet.⁠
